So I thought I'd give my two cents on this past weekend's tragic event. Whitney Houston was found dead at 48. Speculations at this point are that she died from a cocktail of prescription drugs and alcohol. So to recap, within recent years, we've lost major stars of our time. Obviously the biggest ones have been Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, but let's not forget Heath Ledger, Amy Winehouse, Brittany Murphy and Ryan Dunn (I'm sure I'm still forgetting some). Well here's where I stand. I'm devastated. These people were supposed to be role models. When you live your life in the spotlight, you become a star. When you become a star, people look up to you. People of all ages, races, religions, etc. If you want to be famous, you must know that it comes with a price. And here's one for you, there are tons of stars who keep there lives private, because they make the effort. It obviously doesn't effect others, because they are in the spotlight and they do just fine.
I look at these situations like this: There are millions of drug addicts and alcoholics and suicides around the world. The numbers are disgusting. And you ask any of these people how they got to these low points in their lives, and they will, 9 times out of 10, give you a story about how they had a terrible childhood or they were assaulted at a certain age or any other story. Yes, I feel compassion for these people, but do they honestly think they are the only ones on Earth who didn't have fairy tale upbringings? Other people have had trials and tribulations too, and do you know what? THEY OVERCAME THEM! They found God, they found a friend, they found themselves. They weren't defined by their past, they moved on and made their future better.
So as much as I love Whitney Houston and am grateful to have grown up listening to her amazing voice and her beautiful music, I certainly hope her demons are gone now. I pray for her daughter and her family who must live with the knowledge of how she died and must find the strength, through God, to forgive her for leaving on her own terms.
Therefore, Rest In Peace, Whitney Houston. You will truly be missed. You are and always will be a music legend. I Will Always Love You.
